Holy Mother

eight thousand two hundred words since yesterday.

But I did it and I’ve ended up with something that is what could (in very forgiving circles) be considered a first draft which I think can be turned into a workable manuscript. (Ok, a LOT of work, but…)

Also I’m off to Tallinn tomorrow, and it looks like i’ll have Friday morning and aft free to wander round the town so I’m definitely bringing the camera.

Time Out

This blog is temporarily out of order due to the fact I have 8000 words to write by tomorrow evening, if I want to finish NaNoWriMo this year.

I’ll be the one with the broken wrists.

The Traveller

Just been told I’m off to Estonia next Wednesday for work. My handy little desktop weather thing tells me to expect snow and cold. I suppose I shouldn’t expect anything else from northern Europe.

Anyway, it’s not for pleasure, I’m going to be holed up in an office building on the fifth floor I think (no elevator) doing interviews.

AM K

In the morning my radio alarm is set to go off at 6am tuned to Today FM. Specifically Miz AM Kelly who does the morning show. Now some of you may have heard my rants about this particular DJ who appears to be hopelessly confused about all things media, music and news. Not a good thing for someone supposedly working in radio. So why, you must be asking yourselves would I subject myself to this warbling wonder?

The answer my friends is simple.

She’s so bad, she makes me want to get up and throw my radio against the wall just to shut her up. It’s the only thing that gets me out of bed in the morning, the need to get AS FAR AWAY from the radio as possible. Don’t believe me? Observe the following little chat from this morning:

AMK (talking to Morning Newsreader Lady): Did you hear about the weather today?
MNL: You mean the snow?
AMK: Yes. Do you know I bought some anti-freeze last week and it didn’t work.
MNL: What?
AMK: Well I poured some on my windscreen and it didn’t do anything.
MNL: Oh, right.
AMK: Yes, and I found that last week by the time I’d poured warm water on my windscreen to melt the frost, that it had re-frozen by the time I had gone back into the house to put the kettle back. Actually I was talking to a taxi driver the other day and he gave me a great tip about that.
MNL: Newspaper.
AMK: No. Well, I suppose you could use that too… But he said, if you start the car and then turn the wipers on while pouring the water it wouldn’t freeze on the windscreen. That’s good isn’t it?
MNL: Seems pretty common sense to me.
AMK: [silence]
Me: You GO newsreader lady!!
AMK: We’re such girls about these things aren’t we?
MNL: No.

Internet Overload

Oh sweet jesus, just when you think the internet can’t surprise you, something like the Proper Word Song shows up.

And to get that disturbing image out of your head here’s a lovely story about bubbles.

And finally, for anyone going to or already living in the States you should know it’s illegal to expose yourself to aliens.

Could this be considered nun porn?

We were always taught to beware the fairies but this is a bit much surely?

Yet more evil clown stuff.

Just a quick one. For anyone following the Sony rootkit debacle, El Reg has this to say about beating the system.

The Incontinent Gardener

I went to see this on Friday night. It was very much ‘Rafe’ Fiennes being er, well Ralph Fiennes and Rachel Weisz being naked and pregnant. A bit too naked and pregnant for a Friday night to be honest. Put the wibbly-wobbly cellulite AWAY, I’m trying to eat my popcorn here.

It wasn’t too bad, but it was rather in your face. HERE are some poor Africans, LOOK! And HERE are some more poor Africans being screwed by the west. And HERE are some Africans being screwed by other Africans. And here’s Pete Poselthwaite with a silly accent. Very subtle altogether. Now don’t get me wrong, it was a pretty good movie, the cinematography was absolutely beautiful, but the source material… Well, I’ve never been a one for the thrillers. Especially when there really isn’t any mystery to who the murderers are. And lets not forget about the cliched ‘best friend in love with the wife’ and ‘evil head of the British Consulate’ nor the ‘best friend reading out the secret letter at the eulogy.’
Oops sorry, have I spoiled it for you?

It reminded me somewhat of The Insider, or maybe that was just the soundtrack. I can only surmise that Alberto Iglesias (what? there’s another one?) had been listening to Lisa Gerrard and Graeme Revell before he sat down to the piano.

Rachel Weisz was pretty good despite the numerous naked shots, I’m gonne guess that it’ll be a tooth and nail fight to the death between her and Reese Witherspoon for the Oscar this year. Maybe I’m just a jaded grumpy old woman but it wouldn’t be in my top ten movies of all time. Or anywhere close.

*edit*
i’ve just realised what it is that annoys me about these type of movies. Because they are based in the ‘information superhighway interweb age’ they all receive these ‘evil emails’ and suddenly the orchestra starts up with the ominous cello music. Well, listen here I get evil email all the time, difference is I call it SPAM and send it to my trash can. The only ‘thrilling’ bit in this movie was when Rafe got bet up by a couple of football hooligans and tell me, who hasn’t had that happen? eh?
